Clans on the Fjord
Hidden in the Lyngenfjord Region of Arctic Norway are the Ættir á firðinum — the Clans on the Fjord. To them, borders are trivial and cats can freely mate with those from other Clans, and, if a cat desires, they can even move to live and train in another Clan with no consequence. Cats are more concerned with the survival of all the Clans than just their own (though, their own Clan is always the priority, of course), and help is easily and freely given to those who need it.
The Clans
FrostClan
Out of all the Clans, FrostClan is the most superstitious. No one who hasn’t lived inside the Clan at some point knows to which the extent of it goes, but cats are often spotted wearing necklaces that they claim to be good luck charms or share stories of spotting ghosts, even before they wandered all the territories. To older cats, it’s no surprise that it was a FrostClanner that got the first clear view of the spirits that plague them now.
While it’s hard for distinctive genes to carry through with all the mixing of blood that happens in the Clans, FrostClanners are marked by their strong legs and sleek, glossy fur. They are also known for their stubbornness — if an idea gets into their heads, then they aren’t ones to let it go, and they don’t leave things unfinished.
RookClan
Once two separate Clans, PebbleClan and SparrowClan, RookClan was formed when both of the founders decided that having different Clans was pointless. Ever since then they have been fierce advocates of having all the Clans turn into one. Rather than varamenn — deputies — RookClanners have two leaders: one they call an eldri leiðtogi, who takes on the ‘sun’ suffix rather than ‘star’, and one they call a yngri leiðtogi, who takes on the ‘moon’ suffix. The eldri leiðtogi appoints the yngri leiðtogi in much the same way they would appoint their staðgengill, and when the senior leader dies the junior takes their place.
It’s a common belief among all three Clans that RookClanners with lithe frames and strong legs are of SparrowClan decent, and RookClanners with broad frames and long fur are of PebbleClan ancestry. As the Clan encourages diversity, personalities among the group are often unpredictable. They are also known for names that, in other Clans, can seem quite cruel — Witherleg and Lostsun being prominent examples — though the cats who bear them seem quite proud. Mollies from RookClan decide to become Petrels most often.
LeafClan
LeafClan cats often lean on the reserved side and can be hard to make friends with. If a cat does grow close to them, though, then they would find that LeafClanners are dedicated to their history and are highly frugal. All of them can reel off multiple stories about their own Clan, and some of them can even recount stories from other Clans, too, and many of them consider Norðurljós feasts to be wasteful. They are also renowned for wearing woven bracelets made of plants and twigs.
It’s hard for distinctive genes to show through with all the mingling that the Clans do, but LeafClan cats are often marked by being small and thin. They place great value on stealth and agility, believing that light steps and fluid movements are more efficient than brute strength. They are as steadfast as the forest they live in, and rarely ever cause any trouble.
New Ranks
Sáttasemjari
There is only one sáttasemjari per Clan, and usually cat is a normal kaddi — a warrior — for seasons first. This role falling to younger cats would be extremely rare, and would have to display a special aptitude for it. Sáttasemjari work alongside their leiðtogar — their leaders — to keep the peace, and normally help to resolve conflicts between cats in their own Clans, too. They may also work together to come up with solutions to larger problems before they even start. Leiðtogar have their assistance in making sure that all relations stay smooth and peaceful, though most of their time is spent resolving smaller, more civil matters rather than large conflicts. Sáttasemjari are still expected to fight and hunt for their Clan, as they won’t always need to be on-hand.
Sendiboðar
Sendiboðar are typically the best runners of their Clan, whether they’re fast runners or have the best stamina (but usually they have the best of both worlds). These cats are constantly traveling between the Clans, receiving and sharing news about births, ceremonies, predator sightings, and calls for help when needed. There is expected to be one fully-trained boðberi per Clan, with some of them having a lærlingur — an apprentice. A boðberi lærlingur is chosen as a kit, typically by the boðberi themselves. When cats go to live in another Clan, they are escorted by a boðberi. They typically aren’t fighters and hunters, even though they are trained in both, as sharing news takes up quite a bit of their time.
*Please note that sendiboðar have access to all Clan territories at all times, so if you don’t want to be in that many channels, it’s probably best if you choose a different rank!
Forráðamenn Fjarðarins
Made up of only mollies, Forráðamenn Fjarðarins are an elite group of warriors, usually called Petrels. They are much better fighters than your average kaddi, and they spend their time solely focused on battle training. Young, up-and-coming mollies who wish to join this elite group are put through a challenging series of tests, and Petrels are (for the most part, at least) a strict group. As they aren’t expected, but know how, to hunt, they are often lacking in that skill, but they have the reputation of being fearless in battle and the hardest opponents any creature will ever face. They practice a unique fighting style that they keep secret, and are quite protective over their techniques; according to stories, no Petrel has ever shared their style of fighting with a cat that wasn’t a fellow Petrel.
Petrels are fierce, fearless cats who stand by their fellows with loyalty just as ferocious as their fighting talents. They are brave and outspoken, keen on justice and unwilling to leave a comrade behind if they can help it. More than that, they're good team players, and intelligent enough to both act on the spot and act on a well thought-out plan they came up with. They refer to fellow Petrels as their Sisters.
When a cat becomes a forráðamenn lælinga — a Petrel in training — her suffix is removed from her name, whether she is a 'paw or has already earned her true name. When she is finished with her training, she regains a suffix, though it's unlikely to be the one they started with.
*Please note that the Petrels have access to all Clan territories at all times, so if you don’t want to be in that many channels, it’s probably best if you choose to join the Oracles!
